Dhop Chaoon is one of a kind theater group based in Atlanta, Georgia. Its one of a kind, as it takes the every day lives of normal people and presents their stories and adventures and brings them to the stage. In fast paced lives of today, Dhoop Chaoon strived forward with 2 main objective; one to keep our language alive and second, of course, to entertain. Its very fortunate that the people are finally waking and taking the challenge to keep our languages alive. Dhoop Chaoon has about 50 permanent members with many others who contribute their time and efforts into the productions. The group is a collection of all age groups, ranging from 3 – 75, and groups. Every year in the month of May, the group presents their annual variety stage production. Other than the main event, the group is also involved and presents small productions year round at different venues.
Atlanta’s own Sandhya Bhagat has a Masters degree in Hindi from Delhi University and she has Bachelor’s degree in teaching and has been passionate about Hindi Language and the Theater from an early age. Sandhya has lived in Atlanta for over 14 years now and has successfully directed many stage performances, working with people of all ages.
The show’s content is based on comedy as a medium, as she believes that laughing and making other laugh is the essence of Life. She likes to write and direct plays inspired by the satires of such renowned writers as K.P. Saxena, Kaka Hathrasi and others. She also conducts plays based on self produced scripts and literary pieces.
Sandhya has participated in workshops organized by ‘Arvind Gaur’s’ established “Asmita Theater Group” based in Delhi. She has also taught Hindi language (To kids and adults) both at a school and currently teaches as personal tutor.
She is also one of the founders of ‘Hindi-Urdu Sanjhe Bol’, a group that organizes Hindi poetry and Urdu Shayari in Atlanta every year.
